My name is Jarelle Aurelia Africa. I was born in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1992, 2 years before the formation of a new democracy. My parents were both born in Durban, South Africa and migrated to Johannesburg, “The City of Gold”, to find better paying jobs and to start a new life for themselves. I grew up with my 2 sisters and 2 brothers in the busy, dangerous and colorful streets of the central business district and its surrounding areas. As a child, I enjoyed going to school, it was an escape from a maladjusted home life. My favorite subjects were English and Art because of the creative expression I was allotted during those classes. These interests carried on into High School where I participated in various extra-curricular activities that simulated my talents in these arenas.
I have always been fascinated with the world of media and content creation. I’ve also been attracted to the cut-throat, fast-pace fashion industry. As I grew into a woman, gender relations and feminism became of interest to me. These passions lead me to harness my aptitude in acting, modeling, writing, photography and vintage resale. I have been modeling since the age of 16 being represented by Star Model Management and then later Select Model Management. Under Select I partook in various commercial campaigns growing my portfolio and reach within the South African market. My aspirations of becoming an International success propelled me to make a move to New York City at the age of 19. While living in this city that oozes a creative spirit I began acting, writing, and capturing the city through the lens of my camera.
Through this website, I hope to highlight my abilities and share the content I create. I will also share my viewpoint on the world as a feminist. I hope that this website will give the world a better understanding of who I am and what I do. Please be sure to support. You can leave me a message or comment through my numerous channels of communication. Also, visit the shop page to purchase a copy of my first book, The Original Sindie.
